Training for Professionals: Supporting Young People with Behaviour That Challenges

This training is designed for professionals - including school staff, pastoral teams, SENCOs, youth workers, and leaders - who want to respond to behaviour that challenges with confidence, compassion, and calm.

Grounded in psychological theory and emotional literacy, the programme moves beyond behaviour management strategies to explore the why behind behaviour. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of functions of behaviour, trauma-informed practice, and relational approaches, equipping them to see behaviour as communication and respond in ways that build safety, trust, and resilience.

Using a collaborative, values-based framework, the training supports teams to:

  • Strengthen emotionally attuned responses to distress and dysregulation

  • Build shared language around feelings, needs, and boundaries

  • Develop consistent, relationship-centred practices across settings

  • Reflect on adult responses and the impact of school systems on young people

  • Promote co-regulation, repair, and restorative conversations

Through interactive discussion, case reflection, and practical tools, professionals will leave with strategies they can implement immediately, alongside a deeper, more compassionate lens for understanding behaviour.

This training empowers adults to move from control to connection, from reaction to reflection, and from managing behaviour to nurturing growth.
