BEAM Approach
BEAM (Behaviour Emotional Awareness Method) is Bridge the Gap’s unique framework for 1:1 and group sessions. It was created to meet a gap we saw in children’s support, something flexible, relational, and rooted in emotional literacy.
“BEAM sessions help children notice, name and navigate their emotions through safe, relationship-focused support.” Through our BEAM approach, practitioners adapt sessions in response to the child, gently building emotional understanding, coping skills and confidence over time. This flexible, relational way of working means we can support a wide range of needs, from early worries to more complex emotional experiences, ensuring each child and their network feel supported in a way that is thoughtful, personalised and effective.
While we offer a small number of short programmes, our main support packages are fully bespoke. Every child we support is different, so their journey with us is shaped around their individual needs rather than a fixed plan.

Our Work
A guide to fundraising
“We were desperate for help. My daughter was out of school with trauma and anxiety from attending. Her mental health was suffering. Nowhere could offer the support she so desperately needed. She built a trusting relationship with Nikki and made progress. Eventually, supported by Bridge the Gap, she was able to start at a new school and grow in confidence, becoming happier and making her own world bigger.”
Our Support
We support children and young people to:
Understand, name and navigate their emotions
Feel safe in their bodies and relationships
Develop emotional literacy and coping skills
Build confidence, self-worth, and hope
Wherever possible, we work with the network around the child - parents, carers, schools, and professionals - because meaningful change happens in relationships, not isolation.
We Also Support:
Children and young people experiencing anxiety, low mood, emotional overwhelm, or behavioural distress
Children who are neurodivergent
Children struggling with emotional regulation, friendships, or self-esteem
Parents and carers seeking understanding and guidance
Schools and professionals wanting emotionally informed approaches
We are not a crisis service, but we work closely with other agencies where higher levels of support are needed.
