BEAM Approach
BEAM (Behaviour Emotional Awareness Method) is Bridge the Gap’s unique framework for 1:1 and group sessions. It was created to meet a gap we saw in children’s support, something flexible, relational, and rooted in emotional literacy.
“BEAM sessions help children notice, name and navigate their emotions through safe, relationship-focused support.” Through our BEAM approach, practitioners adapt sessions in response to the child, gently building emotional understanding, coping skills and confidence over time. This flexible, relational way of working means we can support a wide range of needs, from early worries to more complex emotional experiences, ensuring each child and their network feel supported in a way that is thoughtful, personalised and effective.
While we offer a small number of short programmes, our main support packages are fully bespoke. Every child we support is different, so their journey with us is shaped around their individual needs rather than a fixed plan.

Creative psychotherapy offers an alternative way for children and young people to explore their emotions, understand themselves and build confidence, without always needing to find the right words.
Sessions are individualised, child-led and creative, using approaches such as play, art, crafts, music and movement. Activities are adapted around each child’s interests, strengths and needs, creating a safe, welcoming space where they can feel accepted and be themselves.
Creative psychotherapy can support children and young people experiencing:
Anxiety, school avoidance or bullying
SEND and understanding or accepting a diagnosis
Attachment difficulties and developmental delay
Selective mutism or difficulties communicating verbally
Experiences of care or adoption
Emotional regulation and understanding feelings
Low self-confidence, self-belief or self-acceptance
Difficulties expressing or understanding their needs
The focus is always on helping each child feel seen, heard and accepted, while developing greater emotional understanding, confidence and self-awareness through creativity and connection.

Previously a volunteer with us, Andrea is in her second year of a counselling and psychotherapy degree and will be with us on placement to support anyone 16+ years with counselling/psychotherapy. Sessions are low cost at £20 per session.
Andrea can offer sessions on a Tuesday, these would be weekly at the same time (to be agreed on commencement of sessions) each week. These sessions are ideal for any young adults or adults struggling, and needing to access further support for themselves - this is counselling and so is different to parent support sessions or our one to one packages at BTG.

Offers a safe, supportive space to pause, reflect and feel heard. Together you can explore your thoughts and feelings about parenting, build confidence in your decisions and think about what might work best for you and your child.
The sessions are collaborative and strengths-based, focusing on what is already working while gently exploring new ideas and practical strategies that fit your family’s unique situation.
Coaching is mainly future-focused, helping parents and carers move forward with greater clarity and confidence, this may be especially supportive for those who feel stuck, overwhelmed or unsure of themselves. At the same time, there is space to reflect on past experiences and how these may influence how you feel and respond as a parent or carer today.
Sessions last one hour and can take place face-to-face at Bridge the Gap or online.Parent and carer coaching can be helpful for anyone caring for children and young people who:-
Have experienced trauma or loss
Have mental health difficulties
Are struggling with confidence or self-esteem
Are diagnosed with or exploring possible neurodivergence
Are navigating changes or transitions
Parent and carer coaching offers time to slow down, think together and find supportive ways forward for both you and your child.

A guide to fundraising
“We were desperate for help. My daughter was out of school with trauma and anxiety from attending. Her mental health was suffering. Nowhere could offer the support she so desperately needed. She built a trusting relationship with Nikki and made progress. Eventually, supported by Bridge the Gap, she was able to start at a new school and grow in confidence, becoming happier and making her own world bigger.”
Our Support
We support children and young people to:
Understand, name and navigate their emotions
Feel safe in their bodies and relationships
Develop emotional literacy and coping skills
Build confidence, self-worth, and hope
Wherever possible, we work with the network around the child - parents, carers, schools, and professionals - because meaningful change happens in relationships, not isolation.
We Also Support:
Children and young people experiencing anxiety, low mood, emotional overwhelm, or behavioural distress
Children who are neurodivergent
Children struggling with emotional regulation, friendships, or self-esteem
Parents and carers seeking understanding and guidance
Schools and professionals wanting emotionally informed approaches
We are not a crisis service, but we work closely with other agencies where higher levels of support are needed.
